At Songbird Briar Hill, what sets us apart is the way we blend a nurturing, family-style approach with thoughtfully designed, nature-inspired learning environments. Our centre offers spacious outdoor play areas, a thriving vegetable garden, and cosy indoor rooms that feel just like home—with heating and cooling for year-round comfort. From our dedicated nursery and sleep spaces to our play-based kindergarten program led by a Bachelor-trained teacher, every part of our environment is created to support each child’s wellbeing, development, and sense of wonder. Children are encouraged to follow their curiosity, build independence, and form strong connections with both their peers and educators. We provide freshly prepared nutritious meals, all nappies and linen, and flexible long day care hours to support busy families. Our place-based learning programs reflect the needs and values of our local community, and we take pride in embedding sustainable practices and celebrating diversity in all that we do.

From forest school excursions and cultural celebrations to hands-on gardening and local incursions, Songbird Briar Hill thrives on strong connections with families and the wider community. We see parents and carers as essential partners in each child’s learning journey and are committed to open, respectful communication every step of the way.

We would love to welcome your family into ours.

Meet the Centre Manager

With over 20 years of dedicated experience in early childhood education, Norma brings exceptional knowledge, warmth, and leadership to our team at Briar Hill. As a qualified Early Childhood Teacher (ECT), she has worked across a wide range of roles in the sector and even spent two years on a special secondment in Katherine, Northern Territory, where she supported remote communities with her expertise and care.

Norma is affectionately known as our oracle of information—if you have a question, chances are Norma has the answer! Her deep understanding of early childhood development, combined with her calm, supportive leadership style, makes her a trusted mentor for educators and a reassuring presence for families.

Outside of work, Norma is a passionate op-shopper, always on the hunt for hidden treasures, and she loves spending quality time with her children and grandchildren, who keep her smiling and grounded. A proud Geelong Cats supporter (and yes, we forgive her for that!), she brings a great sense of humour and heart to everything she does.

Norma is a natural leader, a compassionate educator, and the steady heartbeat of our centre. We are incredibly lucky to have her guiding our team and supporting our community every single day.

Amazing staff who care for your children as their own. Can’t rate them high enough! The outdoor setting is quiet basic but it’s all children need to get the creative juices flowing. It gives children with an adventurous streak to explore textures, climb the playground, jump across the logs and dig in the sandpit or build things with natural materials like leaves, sticks, grass and mud! Yes I said mud. Make sure you send your children with plenty of spare clothes In the wet season. Both my children loved this place. If I didn’t move so far away I would still be sending my youngest daughter here

Can't speak more highly of this centre and the amazing group of educators from Smart Reader Kids. There is always a genuine, caring relationship between the educators and children. The centre is well structured, intimate and welcoming. I love the regular updates and photo through Xplor. My 3.5 year old and nearly 2 year old love going to SRK.
